Times launches on Android tab­let as Guard­ian iPad and Face­book edi­tions take off

The Times launched their Android tab­let ver­sion today, almost 17 months after the launch of their iPad edition.

The Times web­site announced, “Like our iPad edi­tion, our Android ver­sion com­bines the best of The Times journ­al­ism with the inter­activ­ity of your tab­let, includ­ing enhanced graph­ics, stun­ning pic­ture gal­ler­ies and exclus­ive videos.”

Android remains top UK smart­phone platform

Mobile Mar­ket­ing reports that Android remains the most pop­u­lar smart­phone plat­form in the UK, with 30% of smart­phone users, up from 28% in March. 27% of smart­phone users own an iPhone, com­pared to 26% in the first quarter of the year. Nokia, Microsoft join to build the “3rd mobile ecosystem”

Nokia and Microsoft announced today that they are to form a broad stra­tegic alli­ance to cre­ate what they describe as the ‘third mobile ecosystem’.

As part of the deal Win­dows Phone will become the primary oper­at­ing sys­tem for Nokia’s smart­phones. The deal will also bring Bing and Xbox to Nokia devices.
