Starbucks extends free weekly iTunes download to the UK

Starbucks has extended its free Apple iTunes “Pick of the Week” offer to the UK. The offer was previously only offered within the United States where the partnership between Starbucks and Apple has been active since 2006.

The offer in the UK comes a week after Starbucks announced that free WiFi is now available in all its UK stores without the need to register.

“Digital offers are very important to us and making WiFi freely available across our stores is the foundation for many other plans we have moving forward…Content partnerships are key and we also have an extremely exciting digital programme ahead for 2012.” Brian Waring, vice president of marketing and category for Starbucks UK and Ireland

 

To qualify for the free download, customers have to purchase a product in one of Starbucks’s 700 UK stores. They will then be handed a “Pick of the Week” download card which will give the customer up to 60 days to redeem  the complimentary offering via iTunes.

The first song to be offered for free is James Morrison’s latest track, My Dreams and to mark the launch of the service, there will also be a free iBook, Limitless by Alan Glynn, available too.

Future artists will include Coldplay, Tony Bennett and The Kooks.
